Thunberg claims they were "kidnapped," while Israel’s foreign ministry dismissed the effort as a "selfie yacht" with "less than a single truckload" of aid. The vessel is expected to arrive in Ashdod, though reports of its docking remain unclear. A small protest has formed in Ashdod supporting Gaza. The Palestinian foreign ministry demanded safety guarantees for the activists, and a UN official called for more aid ships to sail in unison to break the blockade. (PC: BBC)

In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and launched Operation Sindoor, destroying nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated with military strikes, escalating tensions until a four-day conflict ended. Now, a nine-member Pakistani delegation, including Jalil Abbas Jilani and Sherry Rehman, is lobbying US officials to restore the treaty and push for peace talks. Islamabad claims India’s move threatens water access for 240 million Pakistanis. While Pakistan calls for dialogue, India insists discussions can only occur on terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, denying any US-brokered ceasefire. (PC: HT)

According to the World Bank's Global Economic Prospects report, India has achieved a "significant reduction in poverty," while nearly 45% of Pakistan’s population remains impoverished. The report attributes India’s success to strong economic growth and effective government schemes. Conversely, Pakistan’s economic struggles, including high inflation and slow growth, have worsened poverty levels. The World Bank also projects India’s economy to grow at 6.6% in 2025, compared to Pakistan's sluggish 2.3%. This divergence reflects broader South Asian economic contrasts, with India emerging as a regional economic leader. The findings underscore the critical role of governance and policy stability in shaping national economic and social outcomes. (PC: Investopedia & News18)

Canada's Bill C‑3, introduced on June 8 by Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab, aims to correct "injustices" in citizenship law. The bill abolishes the first‑generation ban on citizenship by descent, allowing Canadian parents born abroad—with at least 1,095 cumulative days of residence—to pass citizenship to children born or adopted overseas, even across multiple generations. It also restores citizenship for “Lost Canadians” affected by outdated statutes from former legislation. The reform particularly benefits Indian‑origin families, offering a path to citizenship for descendants born abroad. Now in parliamentary review, C‑3 requires three readings and Royal Assent before enactment. (PC: Pixabay)
