Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Delhi Police, on June 2 arrested Angad Pal Singh (aka Angad Singh Chandhok) following his deportation from the U.S. Singh, alongside his father Surinder and brother Harsahib, allegedly orchestrated a ₹30.47 crore export‑incentive fraud under India's Foreign Trade Policy. From 2013–2015, five family‑controlled firms submitted 467 forged Foreign Inward Remittance Certificates (FIRCs) using collusion with bank staff. These bogus FIRCs yielded Bank Realisation Certificates, which were then used to claim duty drawback and duty‑credit scrips from DGFT. Scrips were sold in the open market. The scam, originally unearthed in a 2017 ICICI Bank complaint, also involved prior CBI charges against Singh. (PC: India Lawyers)

Pakistan’s claims of striking India’s Adampur and Bhuj airbases during Operation Sindoor have been refuted with evidence of doctored satellite imagery. Alleged damage to a Sukhoi-30MKI and S-400 system was proven false, with visual anomalies like soot stains and cloud shadows misrepresented as missile impacts. Independent expert Damien Symon and Indian officials confirmed the images predated the operation and showed routine base activity. This latest misinformation attempt highlights Islamabad’s ongoing propaganda efforts and the growing importance of accurate satellite intelligence in verifying conflict-related claims. (PC: NDTV)

British Foreign Minister David Lammy met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on June 7, 2025, to enhance UK–India cooperation on counter‑terrorism, following a fragile ceasefire between India and Pakistan on May 10—their worst conflict in nearly 30 years, triggered by the April killing of 26 men in Indian Kashmir, blamed by New Delhi on Pakistan‑backed militants. Lammy praised the ceasefire and pledged continued work with India on anti-terror financing, law‑enforcement collaboration and judicial cooperation . They also discussed boosting economic ties, with Lammy affirming that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will soon visit India to sign a newly concluded free‑trade agreement. (PC: Reuters)

Zohran Mamdani, 33‑year‑old state assemblyman from Queens and son of Oscar‑nominated Indian‑American filmmaker Mira Nair and scholar Mahmood Mamdani, has emerged as a leading progressive contender in the June 24 New York City Democratic mayoral primary. A Democratic Socialist endorsed by Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez and backed by student activists, Mamdani is campaigning on bold policies: rent freezes, free bus service, universal childcare and city‑owned grocery stores. If elected, he’d become NYC’s first Muslim and Indian‑American mayor. His support among young progressives is strong, but critics question the feasibility and cost of his proposals, and some worry his stance on Israel and political inexperience may alienate centrists. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has invited PM Narendra Modi to the G7 Summit in Alberta from June 15 to 17. Carney said, "India is central to a number of supply chains and should be at the table for key global talks." He said the decision was made after discussions with other G7 leaders. Critics questioned the invite due to the 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Carney responded, "There is a legal process underway and it’s not right to comment on it." PM Modi accepted the invitation and said both nations will work with "mutual respect and shared interests." (PC: Reuters)

Pakistan has dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks linking it to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, calling the accusations “baseless and misleading.” PM Modi, during a speech in Katra, said the attack was aimed at inciting communal riots and damaging Kashmir’s economy by targeting tourists. He praised Kashmiris for rejecting such conspiracies. Pakistan responded with strong denial, demanding credible evidence. The Pahalgam attack killed 26 civilians, triggering retaliatory actions by India, including Operation Sindoor and suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. After intense cross-border skirmishes, both sides agreed to a ceasefire following backchannel military communications. (PC: PTI)

A new bill pushed by US President Donald Trump, dubbed the "One Big Beautiful Bill," proposes a 3.5% tax on all outbound remittances, sparking concerns in India. With $129 billion in remittances received in 2024, India—home to the world’s largest diaspora—faces a potential financial blow. The tax, passed by a slim margin in the US House, could hit states like Kerala and Bihar hard. Elon Musk criticized the bill, joking it can't be both “big” and “beautiful.” The move is part of broader legislation supporting Trump's 2024 campaign promises, with cuts to student aid and green energy incentives. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor firmly rejected US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, Tharoor said, “Mediation is not a term we are particularly willing to entertain… it implies an equivalence that doesn't exist.” Tharoor, who is in the US leading the multi-party Operation Sindoor delegation, stressed that talks cannot occur "between terrorists and their victims." India maintains that the May 10 understanding to end hostilities followed direct military talks between the two nations, not U.S. intervention as Trump has suggested. (PC: ANI)
