Shyam Benegal's iconic film "Manthan" will be showcased at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on Friday, marking a significant milestone for Indian cinema. The 1976 film, starring Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah, and others, is the only Indian selection under the Cannes Classic section this year. "Manthan" tells the story of Dr. Verghese Kurien's pioneering milk cooperative movement and was produced by 500,000 dairy farmers who donated ₹2 each, making it India's first crowd-funded film. The screening at Salle Bunuel will celebrate Indian cinema's rich heritage on a global stage.
