Rajinikanth declined to comment when asked about Joseph Vijay becoming the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. At Chennai airport on Tuesday, Rajinikanth smiled, folded his hands and walked away without speaking to reporters. Earlier, he had congratulated Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on their election victory. TVK won 108 seats and secured support from 120 MLAs in the 234-member Assembly. Vijay took oath as Chief Minister on May 10 after his party emerged as the single largest party in the state.
