Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as West Bengal’s first BJP Chief Minister since Independence, marking a historic political shift after the BJP’s massive victory in the 2026 Assembly elections. Speaking after the oath ceremony at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground, Adhikari promised to “rebuild Bengal” and restore the state’s education, culture, law and order, and economic strength. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and several NDA chief ministers attended the ceremony. Senior BJP leaders Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, and others also joined the new cabinet, ending the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule in the state. (PC: X)
