Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday refused to resign after her party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, alleging the outcome was the result of a “conspiracy” and not the people’s mandate. Addressing a press conference, the Trinamool Congress chief accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of “forcefully capturing” the polls with the help of central forces, and raised concerns over the role of the Election Commission of India. She said the party would challenge the results and continue its political fight, asserting, “We fought like tigers and will bounce back.”
