Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, made a strong debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Early trends showed the party leading in over 170 seats. A TVK spokesperson said, “TVK will form government on its own.” The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) trailed far behind. Voting was held on April 23 in a single phase. The state has 234 seats, and 118 are needed for a majority. Vijay, known as “Thalapathy,” gained strong support from voters. The trends point to a major political shift in the state. (PC: PTI)
