DMK Suffers Major Setback as TVK Surge Reshapes State Politics

Early trends in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026 indicate a major political churn, with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam led by Vijay surging ahead and leading in around 110 seats, close to the majority mark of 117. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam alliance is trailing at 52 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam bloc holds 72 seats in early counts. Vijay is leading in Perumbur and Trichy East, strengthening his position as a first-time contender. Meanwhile, Chief Minister MK Stalin and Udhayanidhi Stalin are trailing in their respective constituencies. TVK’s rising vote share, estimated around 33 per cent, indicates it is cutting into both DMK and AIADMK support bases. If sustained, these trends could mark the emergence of a non-Dravidian political force dominating the state’s electoral landscape. (PC: India Today)
