Around 100 migrant tribal workers from Jharkhand have returned home after leaving a textile unit in Namakkal, alleging abuse and unpaid wages. “There were problems with food, rules and behaviour. When we said we would leave, they started assaulting us and warned us not to leave,” said Anil Samad. Another worker said, “They slapped me first and then beat me with sticks and machine parts.” Women workers also alleged harassment and said they were stopped from leaving. Some workers said they escaped by climbing walls. Many paid their own travel costs. Chief Minister Hemant Soren has ordered a probe. (PC: The Indian Express)
