Iran has signalled a change in its war strategy by saying it will now fire missiles carrying explosives of 1,000kg or more. A senior Revolutionary Guard commander, Brigadier General Majid Mousavi, said the heavier missiles will be used in future attacks. Military analysts say this marks a new phase in the conflict with the US and Israel. Iran had earlier relied heavily on large numbers of low-cost drones and missiles. Experts say heavier warheads increase the blast radius and damage if they hit targets. Analyst Shanaka Anselm Perera said when a warhead weighs one ton, “the cost of failure doubles because the destructive radius on impact doubles.” Iran has one of the largest missile arsenals in the Middle East.
