An Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh, Prema Wangjom Thongdok, alleged harassment by Chinese immigration officials at Shanghai Pudong Airport during a London-Japan transit on November 21. Officials declared her Indian passport invalid, claiming "Arunachal Pradesh is part of China." She was detained for 18 hours, denied boarding her Japan flight, mocked by staff who suggested she get a Chinese passport, and reportedly told she'd only receive her passport after buying a China Eastern ticket. The UK resident, who transited Shanghai previously without issues, eventually reached the Indian Consulate for assistance. She's demanded government intervention, accountability, compensation, and assurances against future discrimination for Arunachal Pradesh citizens traveling internationally.
