Fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi, wanted in India's $2 billion Punjab National Bank scam, told a UK court Friday about "sensational developments" in his extradition case, stating he's "extremely hopeful" of discharge or bail. The 54-year-old, imprisoned over six years, appeared before High Court Judge Simon Tinkler defending himself against Bank of India's $8 million unpaid debt claim. Judge rejected his stay application citing technical and medical prison constraints, scheduling trial for January 2026. Modi lodged an application to reopen his extradition appeal, with hearing expected late November. UK Home Secretary Priti Patel ordered his extradition in April 2021 after establishing prima facie case. (PC: PTI)
