Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Sushila Karki on becoming Nepal’s first woman prime minister, calling her appointment “a shining example of women empowerment.” Speaking in Manipur, Modi said Karki would bring peace, stability, and prosperity to Nepal. He also congratulated her on behalf of 140 crore Indians. Karki, a former chief justice and anti-corruption activist, was sworn in on Friday after KP Sharma Oli resigned following protests. She was chosen by student groups leading demonstrations against corruption and restrictions on freedom.
