A symbolic "Embassy of the Republic of Khalistan" has been established inside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, Canada. Once led by slain Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The move coincides with preparations for a Khalistan referendum by the banned group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), reigniting tensions between India and Canada. Nijjar was killed outside the same gurdwara in 2023, triggering a diplomatic freeze. The embassy openly supports Nijjar and threatens recent efforts at rapprochement, including a G7 summit meeting between PM Modi and Canadian PM Mark Carney.
