US President Donald Trump has announced 25% tariffs and additional penalties on India, effective August 1, accusing New Delhi of maintaining "obnoxious non-monetary trade barriers" and deepening economic ties with Russia. Trump criticised India’s continued oil imports and defence purchases from Russia, calling them contrary to global efforts to isolate Moscow over its actions in Ukraine. “India has always bought the vast majority of military equipment from Russia and is among its largest energy buyers,” he wrote.
