India and the UK signed a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on 24 July 2025, offering zero-duty access to 99% of Indian exports — spanning textiles, leather, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and engineering goods — boosting market competitiveness . In return, the UK secures significant tariff cuts on whisky, cars, cosmetics, and EVs, including an immediate drop in petrol duties . The deal also enhances professional mobility, grants UK firms access to Indian public procurement, and includes a social security agreement benefiting temporary business visitors .
