The Government of India clarified on Sunday that it did not ask X (formerly Twitter) to block the UK-based Reuters account in India. A day after Reuters' X handle appeared “withheld” in India citing a legal demand, the Ministry of Electronics and IT stated the move “seems like a technical issue or confusion from X's side.” A government spokesperson confirmed, “We want Reuters to work in India and are working with X to resolve the issue.” Several other Reuters accounts remain accessible, reinforcing that no legal requirement was made by India to restrict the agency’s social media presence.
