Pakistan has formally urged India to reconsider the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), citing fears of a looming water crisis. India halted the treaty following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, vowing to withhold water from Pakistan. The Indian government is fast-tracking hydroelectric projects in Jammu and Kashmir, now free from treaty constraints. Pakistan called the move “illegal” and a threat to its agrarian economy. India, however, stands firm, insisting terrorism and water sharing cannot coexist. A high-level meeting this week may seal the next steps as key projects like Sawalkot and Pakal Dul gain momentum.
