In a major counter-terror victory, Abdul Rauf Azhar, operational head of Jaish-e-Mohammed and mastermind of the 1999 IC-814 hijacking, was killed in India’s Operation Sindoor strikes in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Brother of Jaish chief Masood Azhar, Rauf played a central role in global jihadist networks. The strikes also eliminated 10 family members of Masood Azhar, including his sister and brother-in-law, in Bahawalpur. Rauf’s actions had earlier enabled the release of Omar Sheikh, who later killed journalist Daniel Pearl. The operation targeted Jaish and Lashkar headquarters, dealing a significant blow to Pakistan-based terror infrastructure. (PC: News18)
