Following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif denied involvement and called for an international investigation, asserting readiness to cooperate with global inspectors. India responded by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari land transit post, expelling Pakistani military attachés, and reducing diplomatic staff. Asif criticized India's actions as politically motivated and lacking evidence. The Resistance Front, linked to the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. Asif claimed Lashkar-e-Taiba is defunct and its members are inactive. In a separate interview, he admitted Pakistan's past support for terrorist groups as a "mistake" done for the West, stating the country has suffered for it. (PC: AFP)
