Shaw, in uniform and carrying his service rifle, was guarding villagers harvesting wheat beyond the cobra fence. Officials stress the crossing was unintentional, citing past instances where Pakistanis were returned by BSF. Shaw’s wife has appealed to the Centre for his safe return.
