The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has confirmed two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka. A three-month-old female and an eight-month-old male, both with bronchopneumonia, were diagnosed at Baptist Hospital in Bengaluru. The female infant has been discharged, while the male is recovering. Neither had international travel history. HMPV, a respiratory virus, causes flu-like symptoms and can lead to severe respiratory illness in infants and immunocompromised individuals. The Health Ministry noted no significant rise in influenza-like illnesses nationwide but assured ongoing surveillance.
