India sets a target of 230 for England in Lucknow, a match that England will have to win to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. India had to bat first for the first time this tournament but captain Rohit Sharma said they planned to anyway. After a maiden first over, Shubman Gill was out early to Woakes before Virat Kohli fell for a nine-ball duck to Willey - his first ODI duck this year and also his first in any World Cup match. Shreyas Iyer also departed cheaply, bringing in KL Rahul to partner Rohit in a 91-run rebuilding stand. Rohit scored a half-century and crossed 18,000 international runs before falling to Willey for 87. Suryakumar Yadav added 33 with Rohit before the latter fell. Jadeja soon departed too, leaving Suryakumar to finish with the tail. He fell one run short of a fifty as India ended with a sub-par total. On paper, in-form India faced struggling England who need a miracle to stay alive. But early wickets gave England hope of possibly delaying their likely World Cup exit.
