Indian heptathlete Nandini Agasara has strongly rebutted controversial allegations made by Swapna Barman that she lost her Asian Games bronze to a transgender athlete. Barman, the 2018 gold medalist, sparked uproar on social media after claiming she was robbed of a medal by a transgender competitor, without naming anyone. Her insensitive comments came after she narrowly missed the podium in Hangzhou. Nandini, who won bronze, asserted her identity as a woman and vowed to complain to the Athletics Federation of India over the allegations. Though Barman deleted her post, Nandini was furious over the insinuations that questioned her gender. She refuted the claims and condemned Barman for unfairly targeting the transgender community over her loss.
