Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge questioned if taking a dip in the Ganga could end poverty. He accused BJP leaders of using faith for show during the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. He apologised if his remarks hurt anyone's faith but criticised spending money on such acts while the poor suffer. BJP leader Sambit Patra responded, calling Kharge's words anti-Hindu. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has promised to remove illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators from Delhi and clean the Yamuna River within three years if the BJP wins the upcoming Delhi elections.
