‘No Relation To Satyajit Ray’: Bangladesh Denies Legendary Filmmaker’s Link To Demolished Mymensingh House

Brief by Shorts91 NewsDesk / 06:48am on 19 Jul 2025,Saturday India Global

On July 17, Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry clarified that the house being demolished in Mymensingh has no association with filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Built by Zamindar Shashikant Acharya Chowdhury for employees, the structure was later allocated to the Shishu Academy. Archival records and land documents confirm no familial ties to Ray. The building, deemed dilapidated and unsafe, was abandoned in 2014 and became a hub for unlawful activities. Despite India’s appeal to preserve it as a cultural landmark, Bangladesh reaffirmed its decision. The road outside, named after Ray’s great-grandfather, is the only link. Local experts and citizens unanimously agreed the house lacks historical significance to Ray’s legacy. (PC: India Today & SatyajitRay.org)

China Joins Global Chorus Against TRF After US Labels The Resistance Front As A Terror Group

Brief by Shorts91 NewsDesk / 06:01am on 19 Jul 2025,Saturday India Global

China condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians and supported the US designation of The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized opposition to all forms of terrorism and urged regional nations to enhance counterterrorism cooperation. The US move, announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, was framed as a commitment to justice and national security. Pakistan, however, rejected links between TRF and LeT, calling LeT a defunct group and asserting its own anti-terror efforts. TRF initially claimed responsibility for the attack but later backtracked amid rising India-Pakistan tensions. (PC: TV9 Bharatvarsh, BBC & CBS News)

Trump Sticks To Ceasefire Story In India-Pak Conflict, Says 5 Jets Were Shot

Brief by Shorts91 NewsDesk / 05:37am on 19 Jul 2025,Saturday India Global

US President Donald Trump claimed he helped prevent a major India-Pakistan conflict in May 2025 by leveraging trade negotiations. Speaking at a White House dinner, Trump said five jets were shot down during hostilities triggered by the Pahalgam terror attack. India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan, while Pakistan claimed to have downed six Indian jets. Trump asserted his administration threatened to halt trade deals unless both nuclear-armed nations ceased military actions. India has denied US mediation, stating ceasefire talks occurred directly between the two militaries. Pakistan, however, acknowledged Trump’s role. The conflict ended on May 10, with both sides stepping back from escalation amid rising nuclear concerns. (PC: Dhaka Tribune & India Today)

Brief by Shorts91 Newsdesk / 01:07pm on 18 Jul 2025,Friday India Global

The EU rolled out its 18th sanctions package on July 18, 2025, targeting Russia’s oil exports and financial networks. It designated Rosneft’s 49.13% stake in India’s Vadinar (Nayara Energy) refinery, banning export of petroleum products from it to Europe . The oil price cap was slashed from $60 to ~$47.6/barrel, set dynamically at ~15% below market rates and updated biannually . Additionally, the sanctions blacklist 105+ ships in Russia’s “shadow fleet,” curb Nord Stream-related transactions, and hit more Russian banks and Chinese financial enablers . These measures severely strain Russia’s wartime oil revenue channels and directly impact India’s fuel exports and energy sourcing. (PC: Reuters)

UN-Designated Terrorist Masood Azhar Found In PoK: Threat Of Mass Jihad Surfaces Again

Brief by Shorts91 NewsDesk / 09:36am on 18 Jul 2025,Friday India Global

Indian intelligence has reportedly tracked Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar to Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan-occupied territory. Azhar, a UN-designated terrorist linked to major attacks in India, had been missing from public view following Operation Sindoor, which targeted JeM’s Bahawalpur base. His reappearance signals a potential revival of terror activities, with intelligence citing audio clips of Azhar boasting about 10,000 fidayeen ready for jihad. The broadcast, allegedly played at a Bahawalpur mosque, is seen as a coded call for terror financing and a shift in Pakistan’s proxy war strategy. India continues to demand Azhar’s extradition, while Pakistan denies his presence despite mounting evidence. (PC: India Today)

India's Firm Stand Against Terrorism Gains Traction As US Labels TRF As Global Terrorist Entity After China Roadblock

Brief by Shorts91 NewsDesk / 08:14am on 18 Jul 2025,Friday India Global

In a major diplomatic win for India, the US designated The Resistance Front (TRF) a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). This follows China’s earlier block at the UN Security Council (UNSC) preventing TRF’s mention after the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. India’s strategic diplomacy reversed the narrative, bolstering its case at the upcoming FATF meeting to re-list Pakistan in the ‘grey list’. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar hailed the move as a “strong affirmation” of India-US counter-terrorism cooperation. The designation could freeze TRF’s funding and push for UNSC sanctions, strengthening global pressure on Pakistan. (PC: The Hindu & Reuters)

Undisclosed Reddit Account Leads To Temporary Refusal Of Indian Student’s F-1 Visa

Brief by Shorts91 NewsDesk / 06:24am on 18 Jul 2025,Friday India Global

An Indian student’s F-1 visa to the U.S. was temporarily refused after failing to disclose their Reddit account on the DS-160 form. Despite the account being public and containing no offensive content, the visa officer couldn’t access it during screening and issued a 221(g) slip, requesting all social media handles be made public. This incident follows a June 23 directive from the U.S. Embassy mandating F, M, and J visa applicants to adjust privacy settings for thorough vetting. The State Department emphasized that visa screening continues post-issuance and can lead to revocation. The case highlights growing scrutiny of digital footprints in U.S. immigration processes.
