Elon Musk said Starlink is ready to launch in India and will help improve internet services in rural areas. Speaking on a podcast with Nikhil Kamath, he said Starlink uses thousands of low-orbit satellites to give fast and reliable internet. These satellites can connect with each other through laser links, even if ground cables are damaged. Musk said Starlink is useful during disasters because it keeps working when local networks fail. He added that the service is best for remote areas where fibre cables are hard to install. In big cities, Starlink will support only small pockets without good internet.

Assam has passed a law making polygamy a criminal offence. Men entering a second marriage while the first is valid face up to 10 years in jail and fines. The law provides compensation for women affected and bars offenders from state jobs or elections. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says the law protects women and is a step toward a Uniform Civil Code. Critics argue it targets Muslims, as tribal areas and some communities are exempt. Opposition leaders say it conflicts with Muslim Personal Law. Sarma insists the law applies equally to Hindus, Muslims, and Christians. (PC: AFP via Getty)

From 28 November 2025, the DoT has mandated that messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Snapchat, and others can only be used on devices containing the active SIM linked to the registered mobile number — effectively banning use on devices without the original SIM. Web versions of these apps will now automatically log users out every six hours, requiring QR‑code re‑authentication. The rules aim to boost cybersecurity by closing loopholes exploited for fraud or fraud‑related misuse. App‑providers have 90 days to implement SIM‑binding and must submit compliance reports within 120 days, or face penalties under relevant telecom laws. (PC: AFP)
