Bangladesh has expressed strong objection after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina delivered a public address in New Delhi. Dhaka said it was “surprised” and “shocked” that India allowed the event to take place. In a statement, Bangladesh’s foreign ministry said the move set a “dangerous precedent” and could harm bilateral relations. Hasina, who has been in India since August 2024, made her first public speech since her removal from power. She criticised the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus and urged people to oppose it. Bangladeshi authorities said Hasina was convicted in absentia last year on serious charges. The speech came weeks before Bangladesh’s general election. (PC: HT)

Downing Street said the call focused on the shared sacrifice of UK and US forces. Trump did not issue a direct apology for his earlier comments. (PC: BBC)

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has accepted the ICC’s decision to remove the team from the T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh was dropped after refusing to travel to India, citing government security advice. The ICC rejected requests to shift matches to Sri Lanka or change group placement. Scotland has been named as Bangladesh’s replacement. BCB officials said all options were exhausted and no further appeal will be made. The board confirmed it will not seek arbitration or dispute resolution. An ICC security review found no specific threat, but Bangladesh maintained safety concerns for players and staff. The tournament will be held in India and Sri Lanka. (PC: India Today)
