India deployed a small number of nuclear warheads for the first time in 2025, according to the latest SIPRI Yearbook 2026. The Swedish arms control institute said India had 12 operationally deployed warheads, while China increased its deployed stock to 34. The report estimates that around 4,012 nuclear warheads are currently deployed worldwide. SIPRI noted that India slightly expanded its overall nuclear arsenal and continued developing new delivery systems. It also highlighted that the 2025 India-Pakistan conflict tested regional nuclear deterrence, though both sides acted to avoid further escalation. (PC: India Today)
